How to See the Best of Dubai in 5 Days

Dubai rewards the well-prepared traveller. With five full days, you can move beyond the obvious landmarks and experience a city of genuine contrasts — ultra-modern architecture beside old souks, desert silence an hour from skyscrapers.

Day 1 belongs to Downtown Dubai. Start at the Dubai Mall when it opens, head straight to the Burj Khalifa observation deck (book tickets online the night before — they sell out), then walk along the Dubai Fountain promenade in the evening.

Day 2: Old Dubai. Take the Abra water taxi across Dubai Creek to Al Fahidi Historical District. The Gold Souk and Spice Souk are nearby — go before 10am to beat the heat and the crowds. Lunch at a local Emirati restaurant.

Day 3: Desert Safari. Book a half-day morning tour to avoid the peak heat. Dune bashing, camel riding, and a camp dinner under the stars. Most reputable operators include hotel pickup.

Day 4: Palm Jumeirah and the Beach. Visit Atlantis Aquaventure if you're travelling with kids. Sunset from the Atlantis The Palm rooftop is one of the best in the city.

Day 5: Day trip to Abu Dhabi. The Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque is one of the world's great architectural achievements. Worth the 90-minute drive.
